Created by Utagawa Hiroshige in 1831, Evening Cherry Blossoms at Gotenyama is a tranquil Edo-period landscape from the series Famous Views of the Eastern Capital.
The composition looks across Gotenyama at dusk, where cherry trees bloom above the water and small groups of travellers move through the gently rising foreground. Beyond them, boats drift across the bay beneath bands of soft pink cloud, while a flight of birds crosses the fading blue sky.
Hiroshige balances human activity with a broad sense of calm. The figures are small within the landscape, allowing the flowering trees, distant water and evening atmosphere to carry the emotional weight of the scene. Pale blues, muted greens and warm rose tones create a delicate seasonal palette, while the decorative border gives the print the character of an early nineteenth-century illustrated view.
The work is a woodblock print in ink and colour on paper, produced in Japan during the Edo period. The original measures approximately 34.9 × 21.6 cm.
This restored reproduction has been carefully prepared to improve clarity, tonal balance and print presentation while preserving the softly aged paper, restrained colour and historic woodblock character of the original image. The product gallery includes both the restored artwork and a styled interior mock-up showing how the print may appear when framed and displayed.
Peaceful, lyrical and distinctly seasonal, Evening Cherry Blossoms at Gotenyama is especially well suited to a bedroom, study, living room or interior inspired by Japanese art, nature and quiet landscape traditions.
