A striking vintage French travel poster by Roger Broders (1883–1953), created circa 1928 to promote Agay on the Côte d’Azur for the Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM) railway.
The poster presents an idealised Mediterranean scene framed by tall pine trees, with vivid blue sea, sandy beach and elegant holidaymakers enjoying the French Riviera. Broders’ bold use of colour, simplified forms and strong graphic composition captures the glamour of interwar travel and the growing appeal of the Côte d’Azur as a fashionable winter and summer destination.
The original text reads “Agay – Plage d’Hiver et d’Été – Sur la Côte d’Azur”, promoting Agay as a year-round seaside resort. The PLM emblem appears at the upper right, linking the design to the celebrated railway company that commissioned many of the finest French travel posters of the period.
Roger Broders is regarded as one of the leading French travel-poster artists of the early twentieth century. His work for PLM is particularly admired for its elegant Art Deco-influenced styling and evocative depictions of the French Riviera, Alps and fashionable European resorts.
A beautiful choice for interiors inspired by French travel, Mediterranean coastal living, Art Deco design and vintage railway posters.
