Frühling in Wiesbaden (“Spring in Wiesbaden”) is a classic German travel poster by celebrated graphic artist Ludwig Hohlwein, created in the mid-1920s to promote Wiesbaden as a fashionable spa and leisure destination.

The design shows an elegantly dressed couple set against the architecture of Wiesbaden, with the woman’s vivid red scarf providing a dramatic contrast to the deep blacks, warm yellows and earthy tones of the composition. Hohlwein’s characteristic use of simplified forms, strong silhouettes and carefully controlled colour gives the poster an immediately recognisable graphic quality.

Born in Wiesbaden, Hohlwein became one of Germany’s most influential poster designers of the early twentieth century. This work reflects both his personal connection with the city and the sophisticated visual language that made his commercial and travel posters so distinctive.

A striking example of interwar German graphic design, Frühling in Wiesbaden captures the elegance and optimism of European travel during the golden age of the illustrated poster.
