A scarce Australian cricket booklet from the mid-1950s, the Rothmans Test Cricket Almanack was compiled by Sydney Smith, C.B.E., President of the New South Wales Cricket Association, and distributed by Rothmans of Pall Mall (Australia) as a complimentary publication for cricket followers.
Produced circa 1956, this first edition booklet provides a concise yet authoritative statistical and historical record of Test cricket between Australia and England (the MCC), including match results and individual player performances from both sides. It reflects a period when Ashes cricket sat at the heart of Australia’s sporting identity.
This example is signed in blue ink by Australian Test great Arthur Morris, one of the finest opening batsmen of the post-war era and a key member of Don Bradman’s 1948 “Invincibles”. The signature appears on the foreword page and comes from the Arthur Morris Collection, providing strong provenance.
Originally not offered for retail sale, Rothmans almanacks were produced in limited numbers and are increasingly difficult to source, particularly in signed form. This copy represents an attractive crossover between cricket ephemera, Ashes history, and autograph collecting.
Originally produced in limited numbers, the Rothmans Test Cricket Almanack is believed to have had a modest print run typical of mid-1950s Australian promotional cricket booklets. Surviving examples are increasingly scarce, with signed copies by Arthur Morris exceptionally rare. The signature was obtained during Arthur Morris’s lifetime and forms part of the Arthur Morris Collection.
