Created by Alphonse Mucha in 1897, Chocolat Idéal is a charming example of French Art Nouveau advertising, combining domestic warmth, elegant figure drawing and bold commercial design.

At the centre, a graceful woman carries a steaming cup of chocolate on a tray while three children gather eagerly around her. Their animated gestures bring movement and humour to the composition, while the curling steam, flowing clothing and decorative background create the rhythmic linework associated with Mucha’s poster style.

The deep teal ground provides a dramatic contrast to the warm ochre, coral, cream and pale green garments. Across the top, the broad curved title “Chocolat Idéal” forms an architectural frame, while the words “en poudre soluble” identify the product as soluble powdered chocolate. Product packaging and pricing are incorporated into the lower section, preserving the poster’s original role as an advertisement for the Compagnie Française des Chocolats et des Thés.

The original work is recorded as an 1897 colour lithograph measuring approximately 117 × 78 cm. This restored reproduction has been carefully prepared to improve clarity, colour balance and print presentation while retaining the softly aged texture and character of the historic image.

Warm, lively and highly decorative, Chocolat Idéal is especially well suited to a kitchen, café, bakery, dining room, breakfast area or vintage French-inspired interior. The product gallery includes both the restored artwork and a styled mock-up showing how the print may appear when framed and displayed.
