Jules Gabriel Verne (8 February 1828 – 24 March 1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright.

Jules Verne published a series of short stories/novels, called 'Extraordinary Voyages' or 'Amazing Journeys', numbering some 54 novels, which were published between 1863 and 1905.

Pierre-Jules Hetzel (15 January 1814 – 17 March 1886), was a French editor and publisher that published these early works.

Jules Verne's novels include, among others:

• Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864);
• Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870); and
• Around the World in Eighty Days (1872).

A number of his works have been adapted for film and television.
