His Dark Materials III | The Amber Spyglass | Philip Pullman

Sir Philip Nicholas Outram Pullman (19 October 1946 - ) is an English writer. Best known for his fantasy trilogy “His Dark Materials”, which included:

• Northern Lights (1995) - published as The Golden Compass in North America;
• The Subtle Knife (1997); and
• The Amber Spyglass (2000).

The novels have won a number of awards, including the Carnegie Medal in 1995 for Northern Lights and the 2001 Whitbread Book of the Year for The Amber Spyglass.

A film adaptation of Northern Lights (The Golden Compass) was released in 2007.

Pullman has also written a number of short stories linked to the Northern Lights theme, including:

• Lyra's Oxford (2003);
• Once Upon a Time in the North (2008);
• The Collectors (2014); and
• Serpentine, (2020).

A further trilogy has also been written by Pullman, set around the Northern Lights theme:

• La Belle Sauvage (2017);
• The Secret Commonwealth (2019); and
• To be confirmed (not yet published)
