Isaac Asimov (2 January 1920 – 6 April 1992) was an American science fiction writer.
He wrote the “I-Robot” series, which contained nine short stories, being:
- "Robbie" (1940, revised 1950)
- "Runaround" (1942), (novelette)
- "Reason" (1941)
- "Catch That Rabbit" (1944)
- "Liar!" (1941)
- "Little Lost Robot" (1947) (novelette)
- "Escape!" (1945)
- "Evidence" (1946) (novelette)
- "The Evitable Conflict" (1950) (novelette)
The stories revolved around “Three Laws of Robotics” (or The Three Laws or Asimov's Laws), which were:
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
A further “Robot City” series was developed written by different authors and loosely connected to Isaac Asimov's I-Robot series. Each book is complete in itself:
