The Stars, Like Dust | Isaac Asimov

Isaac Asimov (2 January 1920 – 6 April 1992) was an American science fiction writer.

 

He is a multi-award winner who authored many books but is best known for the “Foundation” series or “The Foundation Trilogy”, including:

• “Foundation”, published as a book in 1951;
• “Foundation and Empire” (1952); and
• “Second Foundation” (1953)

Two sequels:

• “Foundation's Edge” (1982); and
• “Foundation and Earth” (1986); and

two prequels:

• “Prelude to Foundation” (1988); and
• “Forward the Foundation” (1993),

were added to the series.

 

The premises of the Foundation series revolves around the end days of a futuristic Galactic Empire.

 

Asimov also wrote the Galactic Empire series (or Empire Trilogy) consisting of:

• “Pebble in the Sky” (1950)
• “The Stars, Like Dust” (1951)
• “The Currents of Space” (1952)

The Foundation series and Galactic Empire series are loosely connected but should be considered complete series in their own right.

Asimov has also wrote the “I-Robot” series, which contained nine short stories, being:

• "Robbie" (1940, revised 1950)
• "Runaround" (1942), (novelette)
• "Reason" (1941)
• "Catch That Rabbit" (1944)
• "Liar!" (1941)
• "Little Lost Robot" (1947) (novelette)
• "Escape!" (1945)
• "Evidence" (1946) (novelette)
• "The Evitable Conflict" (1950) (novelette)

The stories revolved around “Three Laws of Robotics” (or The Three Laws or Asimov's Laws), which were:

• A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
• A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
• A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Further, there is the “Robot City” series which are a group of novels written by different authors and loosely connected to Isaac Asimov's I-Robot series. Each book is complete in itself:
