Ian Lancaster Fleming (28 May 1908 – 12 August 1964) was an English writer, best known for his spy novels featuring the central character, “James Bond”.

 

He was a member of Britain's Naval Intelligence Division during WWII, no doubt drawing on this experience in writing his spy novels.

 

During his lifetime Fleming wrote twelve novels and two short-stories which featured the James Bond character, including:

• Anthony Horowitz

A series of young James Bond novels were also written by Charlie Higson.

 

The author, Kate Westbrook wrote three novels based on the diaries of the character, Moneypenny.

 

Ian Fleming’s books have been adapted for television and film, together with sales of numerous merchandise based on the characters in the books, in particular James Bond 007.

John Edmund Gardner (20 November 1926 – 3 August 2007) was an English writer of spy and thriller novels.

 

After the death of Ian Fleming (creator of the “James Bond” spy novels) in 1964, John Gardner was a key writer of a number of authorised novels based on the James Bond character.

 

Gardner was a Royal Marine during WWII and later became a priest. After leaving the priesthood in 1958 he gradually moved into novel writing.

 

In association with Ian Fleming's former production company, “Glidrose Publications”, during the period between 1981 and 1996, Gardner wrote fourteen James Bond novels and the novelisations of two Bond films,

 

Gardner also wrote;

• three novels using the character of “Professor Moriarty”, based on the character form the Sherlock Holmes crime series;
• various other novels.
