C. J. Dennis was an Australian poet and writer who authored the best-selling poetic novel "The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke", which was originally published in 1915. The book had a foreword by Henry Lawson and illustrations by Hal Gye. The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke was very well received by the public who were at that time in the throws of WWI. Many copies of the 'trench' pocket edition were sent to overseas troops.
Alec H Chisholm has, in his book, "The Making of A Sentimental Bloke" published in 1946, recounted the life of the great Australian poet C J Dennis.
