Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse (aka P. G. Wodehouse), KBE, was a comic writer.
He was born in the United Kingdom but spent considerable time in France. He was captured whilst in France by the Germans in 1940 and spent much of the war interned in Berlin.
In 1941 he made a number of radio broadcasts from Germany to the United States in which he attempted to describe (using humour) his experiences as a prisoner. His approach did not go down well in the UK, where there was deep and lasting resentment against him. After the end of WWII Wodehouse moved to the United States.
Wodehouse published numerous books, plays, short stories; and other writings.
He was knighted in 1975.
