Sir Arthur Charles Clarke (16 December 1917 – 19 March 2008) was a British science fiction writer.
One of the leading science fiction writers, along with Isaac Asimov, and Robert A. Heinlein.
He earned a first-class degree in mathematics and physics at King's College London in 1948.
His science-fiction writings earned him a number of Hugo and Nebula awards.
His most recognised work was to write the screenplay for the 1968 film:- “2001: A Space Odyssey”.
Subsequent sequels were written, including:
- “2010: Odyssey Two” (published 1982);
- “2061: Odyssey Three (1987); and
- “3001: The Final Odyssey” (1997).
In a completely different story line, Clarke wrote: “Rendezvous with Rama”, published in 1973. This was followed by a number of sequels, including:
- “Rama II” (1989) in collaboration with Gentry Lee;
- “The Garden of Rama” (1991);
- “Rama Revealed” (1993)
Two later novels related to the Rama series were written by Gentry Lee:
- “Bright Messengers” (1995)
- “Double Full Moon Night” (1999)
A few of Clarke’s other notable works include:
- “Childhood's End” (published 1953);
- “The Fountains of Paradise” (1979),
But, a number of other novels and short stories have been written by Clarke.
